The first thing I got to know about OWNDAYS was that it is a Japanese company and Japanese companies are well-known for their excellent products and good customer service. I wanted to join OWNDAYS because I felt that I’d be able to learn a lot by working at OWNDAYS.

Before the job interview, I did a lot of research on OWNDAYS and I came across the interview of the Group CEO, Shuji Tanaka, on YouTube. In the video, he talked about his vision of the company such as the big growth plan. He said that he’d like to open more shops so that the company could give the staff more chances of getting promoted and receiving higher salary. His target was to open 300 – 400 shops around the world within 5 years. This was something which excited me. I wished to play a big part in such a company and help the company grow.

I’ve been performing the duties of an Area Manager for the last 1 year. To me, an Area Manager is one who holds huge responsibilities in the company. I am responsible for the sales and to achieve the target number of customers in all the 9 shops under me. I also have to make sure that the over 100 staff members under my care are always motivated. I try to understand their problems and solve problems together with them. I realise that constant communication with the shop staff is very important so I’ve been trying to maintain close contact with them and to be close to all the shop staff.

In my first year as an Area Manager, I’ve been doing quite well in communicating with the shop staff. If I am re-elected as the Area Manager, I wish to be more involved in management work. I’d like to come up with more strategies that can help increase the number of customers and the sales. Of course, I’ll still continue to maintain good communication with the shop staff.

My aspiration is to help grow OWNDAYS to be the No. 1 optical company in the world. On a personal perspective, I want to improve myself so I can take up a bigger role in the company and if possible, the highest position in OWNDAYS Singapore.
