OWNDAYS has a big presence in Singapore. With 28 shops, you are likely to see an OWNDAYS shop almost everywhere you go. There is a high number of customer flow in the shops so it gives me more chances to interact with customers. I also feel a stronger sense of job satisfaction since I get to serve more customers and help them with their eyewear needs.

Besides, OWNDAYS provides good career progression for the staff. There is a clear structure of hierarchy which I can move up to. This gives me a sense of purpose and motivates me to improve myself in order to achieve my career goals.

As an assistant optometrist trainer, my role is to guide new optician joiners and current opticians in performing refraction and dispensing according to the OWNDAYS standard. This gives me a chance to help them become more professional at their work and to give better customer service.

Due to the scale of OWNDAYS, there are more colleagues so I need to be more conscious of their feelings and how I could provide help to their work. This involves finding the balance between being firm while teaching them and showing them care and concern at the same time. I’m trying my best to handle and maintain good relationship with all the colleagues.

The next challenge I want to take on is to be a global optometrist trainer. If I become one, I can then bring my knowledge and skills overseas to help the colleagues in other countries serve customers better and more efficiently. In this way, it will help to raise the overall eyecare industry around the world as well.
