On 24 September 2019, some 40 staff came together at Pour House, a quintessential pub tucked away in the quiet corner of a light industry building in Tai Seng, for the OWNDAYS Singapore Party 2019. The main highlight of the party was the result announcement of the recent Shop Manager General Election. The party was also a great opportunity for the staff to unwind over some drinks and enjoy a relaxing evening with live music.
We kicked off the party after all the staff who had previously RSVP-ed for the party arrived at the venue. The emcees were area managers Jay and Alex. The two charismatic emcees gave an opening address accompanied by upbeat music belted out by area manager Trevor who was doubling up as the DJ for the evening. Jay and Alex gave everyone a rundown of the evening’s programme and it got everyone in the house all excited!
After the opening address, it was dinner time. We were treated to a sumptuous buffet dinner which included stir-fried rice vermicelli, chicken wings, spring rolls as well as an assortment of cheesecakes and brownies.
The emcees returned on stage. It was finally time to reveal the verdict of the Shop Manager General Election. There were 17 shop manager positions available this election out of the 29 shops in Singapore. The rest of the existing shop managers had managed to retain their position and would continue managing their shops until the following year.
We first invited our general manager Toku san on stage to speak to everyone. Toku san shared his take on the outlook of the business in the coming months and his targets for the upcoming batch of shop managers. After Toku san’s speech, we announced the results of the Shop Manager General Election beginning with the 18th place. Although candidate in the 18th place had missed the shop manager position, he certainly deserved a pat on the back for making his way into the final round!
The elected candidates received their appointment certificates from Toku san, one after the other. Finally, we were down to the top 2 places. Area Manager Alex stood between Erick and Kar Hong. It was the gentlemen’s battle. Whose hand would Alex raise up? It was Kar Hong!! Congratulations Kar Hong for clinching 1st place in this election!
With that, we concluded this year’s Shop Manager General Election. We look forward to the 17 new shop managers, together with the current 12 shop managers, leading OWNDAYS Singapore to greater heights.
8 team leaders were randomly picked and they had to find 2 members each to form a team of 3 for the beer pong tournament. Beer pong is a popular drinking game in which a player stands at one end of a long table and throw a ping pong ball into cups placed at the other end of the table. There are typically 10 cups placed in the triangle formation. A cup is removed from the formation when a ball lands inside. The goal is to remove as many cups from the formation as possible.
Everyone gathered around the two beer pong tables as the 8 teams battled it out in the knockout tournament. It was great fun watching the players try their best to aim and toss the ping pong ball into the cups. The final round was especially intense with the opposing teams coming very close on their scores. Eventually, it was the office team consisting of Ronald, Admond and Canny who emerged victorious, bagging the prize of 50,000 miles. Well done!
We ended the evening with the after party in which there was free time for everyone to enjoy more food and drinks. A few staff also did an impromptu karaoke performance on stage and tried their hands at the beer pong game.
All of us had a great time at the OWNDAYS Singapore Party 2019. It allowed us to take our minds off the daily hectic work and gave us an opportunity to get to know colleagues from the office and the different outlets better. It’s now time to gear our energy towards the peak retail season at the year end!
